MonicaMonica Trammell has interned with a swimwear company in Los Angeles, worked as a personal stylist for a local boutique, and now has plans to take on New York City after graduation. Despite all of her swanky experiences, the student says her favorite memory during her college years has been her participation in the Eloise Student Fashion Show, both junior and senior years.

With the 2013 event this Friday, the designer is champing at the bit to debut the pieces she’s labored over for the past six months.

“Last year was such a great experience as a junior, and I can’t wait to have my senior collection in the show this coming weekend,” she says. “I am even more excited than I was last year to be able to showcase my final collection as a student.”

The Franklin native says she was inspired by the Great Gatsby and the 1920’s era to create her collection, which she named accordingly “All That Jazz.” With the highly anticipated movie premiering this week, Monica hopes to bring that excitement into her line.

“I used a lot of dropped waists, deep v-necklines, and fringe to mimic the Roaring Twenties look,” she says. “There are four basic silhouettes that I took and detailed with lace, trim and beading. All the fabrics were chosen based on not only the look, but also the feel of the fabrics. All of the looks have texture.”

The senior student says that her job at Blush Boutique in Nashville helped her think about wearablity when designing her collection. Working in the retail store as a personal stylist gave her a certain perspective on the clothes she was creating.

“I loved being able to help others find outfits to fit their personality as well as making them feel comfortable in their own skin while having an updated look,” she says. “This gave me a better understanding of how to create collections that would be something my clients would actually wear and be comfortable in. “

After graduation the Franklin resident will pack her bags and move to the Big Apple to intern with BPCM, a public relations firm specializing in fashion communications.

“I am very excited to learn and experience the public relations side of the fashion Industry in hopes to one day land a job with BPCM,” she says.
